#1 HEALTH & SAFETY .. with the Covid-19 situation, if guests are considering River House we feel it is highly important to discuss traveler needs and concerns upfront and to also insure that arrivals are safely buffered from departures. Accordingly, PLEASE DO NOT INSTANT BOOK before we've talked. We will nominally maintain a 24-48 hour minimum buffer zone between departing and arriving parties and have implemented a 12 step process to enhance cleaning and disinfecting procedures.
Covid-19 Cancellation Policy. We truly understand and recognize the uncertainty of the times and the hesitancy to book vacation rentals. Accordingly, our normally moderate cancellation policy will stay in effect, however any traveler request for cancellation due to Covid-19 circumstances before July 2020 will be honored with a 100% refund of payment(s) made to date or credited for a future stay within the 2020 calendar year based solely at the traveler's election. We also reserve the right to issue Covid-19 cancellations at any time based on state, county or local orders and will offer full refunds or credits for payment(s) made to date, again, at the traveler's election. Regardless of circumstances, it is our constant pledge to always proactively work with the guests to help assure their stay at River House is both safe and pleasurable.
In general, as you look for a vacation or retreat please consider the importance of cleanliness and isolation for yourself, family or friends. River House is vigilantly kept clean and we've introduced additional measures to disinfect contact surfaces, enhance air quality and such. River House is an occasional rental property available when we travel or when schedules afford .. so it is not rented to death and abused. It is pristine and well maintained. River House is also very isolated .. while not remote, provisioning trips and outings are easy, but it is quite possible to go for days or weeks at this property and rarely interface with locals or the vacationing crowds typical of the beaches or resorts. Of course restaurants, shopping and such are also handy in normal times, so just burrowing in is VERY easy here.

This 2,450' SF residential ranch retreat is set for repeat customers and new friends who seek a few days, a week or two (or much longer) of serenity, fun, relaxation and convenience in hospitable, eastern North Carolina. Quiet, quiet, quiet ... did we say QUIET? Located at the end of a beautiful waterfront community in the greater Belhaven area, River House is the best kept secret in the area. Come and enjoy our river home ... whether you want a life lifting spiritual retreat, yearn to kayak in amazing waters, or just need a well deserved break, River House is waiting for you.
This home has a newly renovated, very large and wide open kitchen with gas fireplace. The northern exposure is a large common area originally designed as a gracious living room and dining room combination. We have converted this expanse into a casual living room and entertainment with commercial grade TREADMILL and FOOSBALL table! The southern exposure with terrific views has a beautiful sun room, all with easy access to the screened porch complete with BBQ grill, rockers, glider and tables.
MAJOR AMENITIES:
The beautiful new kitchen with granite counters and new appliances opens to the sun room with great water views. Ideal for a large family or couples! Vacation at River House together or apart or both ... the choice is yours!
Sitting Areas w/Gas Fireplaces: One embraces the kitchen, while the other is ideally secluded with a rocker and 2 seater to make it a lovely reading room. So while one is making a snack, small meal or full dinner, a spouse or mate can curl up to finally have that conversation you promised yourselves for years. Or just sit, breathe, take in the quiet and smile ... life is good at River House.
Bedrooms: 3 BRs with king, queen, double bed sleeps 6 comfortably .. all BRs get a lovely sunrise "good morning". K/Q BRs have robes and slippers to keep you comfy. Fair warning - find the inviting king bed and truly get lost in the arms of Morpheus. Sleep for a week? It's possible here.
Sun Room: the spacious sitting/TV viewing area features a cozy couch and chair suite to curl up into. Windows, windows, windows with glass doors just say "come on in, bathe in the warmth of the sun", or enjoy the available puzzles, games ... might even watch a good movie with the family or friends. Blu-ray DVD available if you bring your favorite flick, and a few of our favorites might become your favorites, too! Great cable TV and fiber-optic WiFi internet on site.
Screened-in Porch: With 2 rockers, barbecue grill, a 2 seat glider and table for 6, it's "skeeter free" but wide open to the enticing breezes off the river. Honestly, sit here and you may never want to move again. With a south-southwest view, the sunsets are amazing. Or grab a cup of Java early in the morning and plunk yourself down for serenity tough to contemplate. Watch a bald eagle, Canadian geese, mallards, loons, or the occasional heron .. so why leave? Stay a week or two! Or more! Still water, with shimmering "diamonds", and soft easy breezes will grab you .. we promise.
HVAC: Independent, dual HVAC systems provide cooling and heating to suit the needs of the occupants. One side likes 75 degrees while the other likes it cooler? No problem. Set it where you like it!
Lawn: Sitting on an open 3/4 acre, the front lawn (north side) is great for playing lawn games or just running around without the fear of traffic. The south side lawn gently slopes down to the bulkhead and water ... super for water related games. "Corn-hole" board/bags are available onsite along with volley ball net and croquet set ... have fun.
Bulkhead/Water: The fiberglass/steel reinforced bulkhead has a nice catwalk and tie-downs with a lower landing dock added to aid in kayak entry/exit ... a kayak skidder has been installed and rack is close to make kayaking launch and retrieval as effortless as possible. Swimming and diving is not permitted or advised with the 3-4' nominal depth and it varies a bit due to wind and tide. Jump a craft, however, and launch yourself and family into Scott River or Pungo Creek. The waters there are seasonal in temp of course but very nice from late May until the early part of October. Occasionally you'll find "hot pockets" where the water temp is noticeably warmer compared to just a few feet away ... can't readily explain the phenomena but just enjoy it! Brackish water hosts both saltwater and freshwater fish of many types. Fishing licenses may be purchased locally with rules and regulations readily available. We have limited fishing gear onsite for you but best to bring your own, particularly "Grandpa's favorite lure". You'll spot the occasional local fisherman right on the point for a reason .. there's fish in these waters!
Kayaks: Our 2 recreational single seat, sit-on kayaks are available onsite for your enjoyment, and we "park'em" right at the water's edge. No long hauling involved. Paddles and life-jackets are also provided for your use free of charge. Area land/water maps are available in the house to familiarize with. We suggest that you bring waterproof bags for cell phones and have directional apps installed on them for your safety and convenience.
